Mauna Lani, Auberge Resorts Collection

Hotel in Mauna Lani, Waikoloa

Located along a white sandy beach on the Kohala Coast, this oceanfront hotel includes a spa, 2 restaurants and 2 golf courses. Kailua-Kona is 40 minutes’ drive away. This resort is really wonderful. We had an ocean view room, which was wonderful. The rooms are really well appointed and clean; functional as well given that this is a beach resort. The landscaping of the resort is outstanding. There are different pools and the beach, of course. The "adult" pool also works for lap swimming and is not so busy. There were always enough deck chair to use at the pools and beach and the service is generally very good, with friendly and helpful people. A highlight is really the sunset, which can be watched from the beach, the restaurants and bar, or just from a chair. We had a massage (mine was OK, my wife really liked hers), took a canoe/snorkling trip and I took a SUP class. The water classes were great and easy to book. The gym is great, with indoor and outdoor section. There are two main restaurants. The canoe house is amazing. Truly great Hawaiian and fusion cuisine, really well executed with great service. While it is expensive it is worth the money - maybe save some wine pricing by the glass for quite ordinary choices. The Halani/Ha Bar place is good but - like in all of the area - the prices are elevated to a silly level ($30 for a burger with so so fries). There is also a market that makes sandwiches and such and is great, with long opening hours. Service attention was great. We were asked for our departure plans and shared that we would be leaving after lunch. The hotel offered late checkout on their own Initiative.

PACIFIC 19 Kona

Hotel in Kailua-Kona

Located in Kailua-Kona, a 2-minute walk from Kamakahonu Beach, PACIFIC 19 Kona provides accommodations with free bikes, private parking, an outdoor swimming pool and a garden. I spent all together 9 days in this hotel. (But only one night booked by booking.com). And this is what I would highlight based on those days. 1. The staff were absolutely incredible. One example: My flights were very delayed, and my travel agency, due of information from the airline company, rebooked my room to the next day. However, I arrived very late on my originally booked day. Their first priority was to get me into a room, whatsoever. With a smile 😃. And they did it.. 🤩😃. 2. The staff once again. I’ve never encountered such a smiling staff ever, in any hotel. 👍👍 3. Morning coffee before 9am., was such a treat to a tired traveler. 4. Almost everything downtown is literally at walking distance from the hotel. 5. Rooms are very comfortable. And well air conditioned. 6. In 1st. Floor, there’s dispensers for ice cubes, and cold drinking water. 7. Last but not least. There’s such a peaceful atmosphere in this hotel. There’s more amenities they can offer as well, but that was not suitable to my needs this time.
