The Best Culture and Nightlife this Side of a Canal

Jump on your city bike or hop on a canal boat and admire Amsterdam, the Venice of the North! The beautiful city houses, romantic bridges, iconic canals and street cafés create its unique atmosphere and give you an ultimate taste of its fascinating past.

Famous for its museums, most important of which are located in the Museumplein, Amsterdam offers you a chance to see unforgettable masterpieces by Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Mondriaan and more. The Anne Frank House is a sobering reminder of the city’s more recent history. After a lot of walking, the Rijksmuseum is a great place to rest and get some extra culture before visiting Amsterdam’s lovely Vondelpark.

The medieval Old Centre with the always busy Dam Square and the tempting Red Light District is the most visited part of Amsterdam. Make sure to stop at Leidseplein and Rembrandtplein, homes to the best nightlife venues.

Shop till you drop at Amsterdam’s most luxury shopping street, PC Hooftstraat, the most popular street market at Albert Cuyp or in the fancy design shops of the Jordaan district. Famous pancakes and frites with mayonnaise are a must-try! The more adventurous traveller might want to try the pickled herring, followed closely by a local beer.

All these attractions are just a short train ride from the Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport. Whether you want to stay at a cosy hotel on a canal, a modern apartment in a quiet part of the city or a room in the centre of everything, Booking.com has a perfect accommodation for your Amsterdam vacation.

I have mobility problems so Amsterdam is a disaster, crossing the main roads is Russian roulette,, Finding a ground floor toilet is a joke, the 2 so called Italian restaurant food was not good and expensive. We enjoyed the museums which seem to be the main attraction for foreigners, The bolt taxi is a hit or a miss , it's like a game of chance. I'm sorry Amsterdam is for active people who don't require special facilities.

Amsterdam at the end of September, was wet, it rained a lot but its such a wonderful city, it wasn't a problem, it rained a lot all over Europe this year. I love visiting the Markets, always a joy. Its a real pleasure for me to visit Amsterdam, no matter the weather, just being there, walking, meeting people over a nice pint of Heineken, i treasure it.

Amsterdam has some must see museums like the Rijksmuseum.

Amsterdam has some must see museums like the Rijksmuseum. However it is very crowded and busy with tourists. You'll find historical Dutch architecture, beautiful canals, great shopping, and delicious food in almost any Dutch city. So visit Amsterdam for a day, but I wouldn't make it the main stay of a visit to the Netherlands. There are much more more "gezellig" (warm, restful, welcoming) places, that are more affordable, even just a half hour train ride in any direction. The Dutch are fantastic English speakers anywhere you go, if that is a concern. It is between the cities you'll really discover the beauty of this place.

Amsterdam has a lot to offer any visitor.

Amsterdam has a lot to offer any visitor. From historic buildings, excellent museums and a place oozing with culture, this city has it all. To give me a general sense of the city's offerings, I enjoyed a hop on/hop off bus tour that also included a two hour hop on/hop off boat tour that provided an excellent overview of the old city. The museums are excellent, the historic buildings interesting and the people friendly. Our Lord in the Attic Museum (a former Catholic Church hidden in a house), was quite interesting and informative. I love art so the works of Rembrandt, Van Gogh and Vermeer were obvious attractions for me. However, there are plenty of interesting statues, architectural gems and fun street art to offer up something for everyone. I found the people friendly and welcoming with English being widely spoken. The restaurants were reasonably priced and there were so many different cultures represented in the food industry that visitors will have no difficulty finding food to suit their tastes.

Comfortable and spacious room, comfortable bed and pillows. I liked the fact that the room was equipped with ironing machine and table. Good breakfast, with a nice variety. By far the best coffee you can find in a hotel :) It is not very close to city centre, but this is something you already know when you book. However, the Amsterdam Bijlmer ArenA station is very close and you can get anywhere within 20-30 min.
