I loved the renovation of an old stone structure; the additions to a piece of human history; artistic and modern internal designs with great comfort. Elsa is a remarkable host as well as local guide. We came with little knowledge and in three days left with many understandings of the place. Always attentive, interesting and kind, Elsa is an exceptional host. We loved being out all day exploring the Serra and watching birds. Fantastic location, and so much more we could do and see.

We spent 3 nights here at end November, the weather was pretty wet so we didn't do much walking. Enjoyed a Cheese-tasting evening, visits to the Thermal Baths and quick visits to the 2 wool factories. There's a surprising amount to do and see, we loved it.DelglynPortugal - 8.0Scored 8.0

A small town in the mountains. When visiting some places nearby one needs to be cautious about the roads as many mountain roads are pretty narrow even for small cars and one may need to reverse in case of traffic coming from in front. During off-season periods many Restaurants are closed.

If you love long hikings, walks, the mountains you are in...
If you love long hikings, walks, the mountains you are in the right place. There you can really have great hiking sessions and walks. For the real deal you will need a guide and I highly recommend that you make a whole day Jeep Tour with lunch. This kind of programm is something that you don't want to miss in this area of Serra da Estrela. This is a place that you need to take the correct equipment for walking and hiking, the right shoes etc. It can rain a lot so you need proper waterproof clothing. It can get really cold there, so under waterproof clothing you need functional skin breathing active clothing. For the walks and hikings I do not recommend any clothing around cotton or woole. This location is great for active people and active families who love the nature and the amazing views that you can get there. They have there in Manteigas few restaurants, but keep in mind that it is a small village, so I would not recommend a stay larger than 1 week.Travelling is magicGermany - 10Scored 10

Manteigas is a not a place most tourists seem to hear about and, surprisingly, not a place which many Portuguese from the South of Portugal seem to visit. The variety of things to do in the area are wonderful. Whether you like winter sports of skiing and snow-shoeing to bicycling, fishing, camping, hiking in the Spring, Summer or Fall there are any number of activities year-round.ClarkPortugal - 10Scored 10

This place was such a pleasant surprise, despite a couple of white knuckle moments navigating the rather narrow and winding road leading down to the town from the main mountain road. The roads in Manteigas are much narrower than what we’re used to, but it’s relatively easy to get around if you take it slow. Enjoyed some excellent local cheese, charcuterie and wine at Queijaria Manteigas. Don’t miss the tour of the Burel Woolen factory, which is very interesting. Their gift shop has something for everyone.

Everybody was nice, but the woman with the black braid during breakfast was exceptionally sweet and made sure everything and everyone was taken care of, and made us yummy espressos every morning. Thank you, everyone. We enjoyed our stay a lot.

Remote location + massage = happiness Don't forget to try the indoor pool. Nor the shorter or longer nature trails. The views are breathtaking!
