With a long and rich history, Lagos is nowadays a famous beach resort of the sunny Portuguese region of Algarve. Including wide sandy beaches and quiet coves enclosed by ochre cliffs, it also offers a lively city centre with one of the best mixes between history and modernity in the region.
King Henry the Navigator chose it as a base for his trips of discovery during the 15th century, and later on, it became the residence of the Algarve governors. The Old Town is circled by medieval walls, typical narrow streets, historic buildings and charming squares. B&B’s and hotels in Lagos’s historic centre allow you to enjoy these picturesque surroundings.
Apart from being an important centre for sailing, the city has amazing beaches, like Meia Praia or Praia da Dona Ana. Resorts and hotels on Lagos’ beaches are the perfect choice for sun lovers, while the hotels near the modern Lagos Marina are popular, as they are both close to the centre and the railway station.
The city is 90 km from Faro Airport, and 24 km from Portimão. Check out the Lagos hotels deals on Booking.com before travelling!

Beautiful place.
Beautiful place. Lots to do, lots of beaches which are all lovely. Plenty of days out available and lots of boat trips ie, dolphin watching, kayaking. The Marina is a great place to sit and watch the world go by with good restaurants and bars. The town centre has a real mix of shops and again plenty of places to eat and drink.

Far too touristy with some base elements.
Far too touristy with some base elements. Ok if you're young and carefree, but for the discerning visitor the brashness is too much. That said, I suspect that when the town is quieter, it's better qualities would stand out and be easier to discern.

Lagos is a beautiful old city with modern hotels and apartments outside the walled centre.
There are plenty of beaches and experiences to be seen and a fabulous board walk on both Meia Praia and Camilo .
Public transport is great with buses to most locations. The blue route links from Poto da Mos via Donna Anna to Meia Praia .
There is an abundance of good quality restaurants , go for the more traditional small ones for authentic food. The marina has a good vibe and some nice bars serving food.
The zoo is worth a visit and is on a bus route
Ther is something for all ages in Lagos and the surrounding area

Lovely marina area with plenty of restaurants, the Lighthouse bar on the marina is good for food and reasonable prices. Old town has a large and varied choice of bars and restaurants. Good supermarkets. Easy to get around Ubers are cheaper than taxis. Seems to be a rise in the number of beggars mainly in the old town. Plenty of sea excursions available such as fishing, dolphin spotting and visiting caves.
Everything!!
Small 5 room hotel. The hosts are amazing and cook fresh breakfasts every morning using local fresh ingredients. Great location only 7 minutes drive from the center. Very private and quiet. And no children to spoil your afternoon pool time. Free parking. Very communicative hosts. We were provided a welcome snack and glass of sparkling wine upon our arrival.
We will definitely stay here again if we return to Lagos area. Thank you Renato and Rosana for a wonderful visit.
Carvi Beach Hotel was a great stay for the area, the only thing in hindsight would be that we probably would have shifted our 2 or 3 night stay away from this location to another one a bit further East. Don't get me wrong, we had a really good stay, and the roof top pool is pretty awesome, and there are some great beaches/cliffs/walks nearby. But after quickly going through Portimao and Carvoeiro...we'd probably have base camped there and then driven to Lagos for the day.
Perfect location - The hotel is in a roundabout. But don’t panic like I did in my first day there 😀take tfirst right ,10 min walking to the most beautiful beaches from Algarve. Second right - you are in the old town where you’ll find all what you need- amazing food, great drinks, shopping. You’re also close to the Lagos Marina.
The room was spacious and clean, same the bathroom. It would be too small for a couple , but for a solo traveler was perfect .
It was our 1st time in Lagos and the Villa Zawaia was a wonderful hotel. We stayed for 3 nights - enjoyed a yummy breakfast each morning on the terrace and found the hotel truly a perfect location for exploring Lagos, the surrounding beaches, finding good restaurants and still being in a nice area that was quiet at night. Also, we had a rental car and it was super easy to park at the free parking lot 3 minute walk away. Highly recommend this hotel!
Carlos met us at the apartment and showed us around. He had a bottle of wine there as a welcome gift! The view from the deck was amazing. The walk to the nearest and most stunning beach was just 5 mins and there were several paths across the cliff top. Only 10 minute walk to down town Lagos and the marina. It was important for me to be warm and apartment had very good heaters and was extremely clean! Carlos was very friendly and helpful.
Our room was very spacious. The poll was great it was almost 3 meters deep - nowadays you do not have such pools in hotels. The hotel had access to normal gym where members were training - the gym was very well equipped. Hotel was located close to the old town where you can find a lot of nice restaurants. However the best beach is on the other side of the town. Parking is outside the hotel and very cheap. Receptionists were very helpful.
Perfect location close to historic town, beaches, train station, marina. Rooftop is amazing and an added bonus! The hosts go above and beyond to make sure you feel welcome and give great honest recommendations! While being in the popular fun area you still have the feel of a quiet and private accommodation. Clean, comfortable, everything you need and more. If I am back in Lagos I will stay here again!
Great apartment, located in a quiet area, with lots of beach & few people. We were close to town & only minutes from the marina. There is a breakfast offered onsite for E10 per day & we enjoyed it. We ate at the restaurant directly in front of the property on the beach, A bit expensive but fabulous food. We also enjoyed meals at the marina restaurants.
This is the only place we would ever stay in Lagos - why? because of the 5 star team, service and breakfast. Nothing is too much trouble. Feels like being part of the family. Can’t wait for our next stay with João, Maria and Carla. Thank you all once again for the best time.
my daughter lives in Lagos and it is close by we have stayed before all different times of the year it is always quiet and restful the apartments have everything you need and the walk on the beach or cliffs can be fitted in anytime of day due to the beautiful location
Casa Margo is an excellent boutique hotel centrally located in Lagos Old Town. The property was very clean, staff were very professional and helpful and our room was spacious and comfortable. Also, appreciated the fresh oranges, small snacks and daily water provided.
From start to finish with the help from Jorge it was truly a 5 star service. Apartment is immaculate and bang in the centre of Lagos. If your not staying here, your missing out. Cannot recommend this highly enough. Absolutely fantastic stay and made our trip
Everything was perfect. The room was beautiful and decorated with taste, the bed was comfortable, the staff was really kind, the breakfast was excellent with a lot of choice each morning. I would definitely recommend this Hotel for a stay in Lagos.
My experience at Tivoli Hotel in Lagos, Portugal, was extraordinary. The facilities are stunning, offering a diverse breakfast. The reception staff is extremely attentive, and the room is spacious with high-quality finishes.
One of the best hotels i ever been. The breakfast more than excellent. Generally all are super.
I hope i will.visit again lagos in the future and i will prefer tha same place to stay. Kudos to Sasa who was very supportive.
We loved everything about it. It was far better than any 5 star hotel we stayed in so far in Europe. The rooms were really exceptional with the décor and the amenities. the staff were very helpful and accommodating.
The hotel is well situated to visit all the major sites in Lagos. The breakfast is on par with the best that we have ever experienced in Europe. Overall, a pleasant experience.
