We were going to stay in Barrow-in-Furness but the hotels were really expensive. So the thing we liked most was the price.
Secondly, the view was spectacular and Ian, the owner is a lovely bloke and made us feel very welcome.

Very friendly people who greeted me as I walked around and/or asked for help. We were there on the night of lanterns and watched it from the living room. A strong showing of community participation. I loved it.

A quaint ,typical Lake District town.
A quaint ,typical Lake District town. Windy streets with nooks and crannies and something to discover on every corner. An awesome selection of eateries and cafes. Some like "4 penny cafe" were quirky ,friendly and the food to die for. The scenery was beautiful. The town is clean and easy to navigate. It has a Thursday market. And of course ,the Laurel and Hardy museum.

However seagulls so loud at night it was difficult to sleep, and traffic on main through road extremely busy at all times.

Having lived in Ulverston for a few months in 2016, I know...
Having lived in Ulverston for a few months in 2016, I know the town and surroundings fairly well. If you want to spend time, as I do, in a scenic area with both fells/hills and sea nearby, this could be the place for you! The town is small enough, if you want to avoid the stress and hassle of a larger town or city. And yet there are enough descent places to enjoy a good meal and/or a drink. There is a theatre/concert hall with a good programme of events, and a cinema. And there is often folk music in one of the pubs. Places to visit include the birthplace of John Barrow (mariner and explorer), a museum celebrating Laurel and Hardy (Stan Laurel was a native of Ulverston), and Swarthmoor Hall which played a key role in the beginnings of Quakerism in the 17th century. There is a fine view of the town and the beautiful surroundings from the top of Hoad Hill - just a short climb from the edge of the town.
This is a real gem, lovely hotel, and for a solo female traveler looking for a cozy quiet hotel this is great. The single room was perfect, the separate bathroom was huge, and the team is really welcoming. The breakfast was great, freshly made and good way to start the day. Internet is up to speed, and I could have a work call without problems. All in all, I would definitely come back when I'm in Cumbria. Ulverston is a lovely town, with food and shops, easy access to train (I few to Manchester and took train up)
Return visitor to Beech Cottage. Scales is a lovely village close to the Cumbrian coast and with easy access to the Lakes. You have all the amenities of Ulverston and Barrow-in-Furness nearby, as long as you have a car which we did..
Beech cottage has all you need in a home away from home. It’s comfortable and suited us as 3 adults with one small dog. I will return again as I think it’s a great value staycation in a lovely location.
The cottage was well presented and equipped with everything needed for a very pleasant stay. Lots of indoor games and books to read if raining and a garage 2 minutes walk away for snacks for hungry offspring.
Lovely walk into Ulverston and beautiful scenery.
The town itself has nice shops and lots of eateries. Would recommend the Rose & Crown for lunch and Poppies cafe & Bistro for a gorgeous breakfast
The location was wonderful as a complete getaway from busy life. I was attending the Buddhist festival in Ulverston, and needed to have cooking facilities for my diet. Being able to cook for myself in such a lovely quiet location was ideal. My husband was meant to be with me, but due to work commitments couldn't make it. I felt very safe on my own.
The property and surroundings are perfect. Amazing value for money. It’s great how close to all the amenities you’re and Ulverston is a great night out. The beds are really comfy and Anastasia who runs the show is lovely and you can even book in for a massage at the spa which I did for my partner and she loved it.
We loved this property - everything we wanted for our short break in Ulverston. The property has been refurbished to a very high standard. We appreciated the smart TV and access to Netflixs etc. The property is very central and a great location for the restaurants we wanted to visit. Would definitely recommend.
We liked our host, Sarah, great company throughout, and very knowledgeable with local information. House always had a fire burning which was cosy on the cold winter nights. Would definitely stay again and would recommend others to do so, very close to the town centre of Ulverston.
Excellent location close to the centre of Ulverston. Close to the stsrt of the Cumbrian Way. Off street parking. Kitchen and bathrooms clean. Plenty of storage. Basics like salt and oil provided. Clear inatructions provided for access. Very large bed in main room. Plenty of loos!
Beautiful, family and dog friendly house, very remote and peaceful location, breathtaking views, exceptionally clean house and lovely and super friendly host. Perfect place to stay for exploring Lake District. Highly recommended! Definitely will be going back there.
Clean and comfortable room with everything you need including hairdryer, water // tea facilities and TV with streaming platforms. The breakfast was fantastic, lots to choose from. Great location, just a minutes walk from the town centre.
Layout of the property. It was clean ,bright and well appointed. It was close to the town centre and handy for the vintage cycle race being held. Ulverston is an interesting town and close to a beautiful coastline as well as the Lakes.
Our room was lovely & facing out on the estuary. Comfortable bed, great shower. The bar area has a nice atmosphere & is dog friendly. The hotel is situated approximately 40 mins walk from Ulverston along the canal. Its a nice walk.
Right in town centre with a car park next to it. Car park rate is 60p/h 9am to 7pm. Furnishings in the home is of good quality. Just be mindful it is 4 levels. No issue for us but for those who don't like stairs...
Great location. Short walk into the town centre. The cottage is really well appointed, comfortable and cosy. Nice to have a gas hob as well. The cottage has everything you need for a short break.
Location in the centre of Ulverston was excellent and within easy reach of the southern Lake District. Plenty of restaurants around although a bit of a dearth on Mondays.
Central Location in Ulverston, plenty of space for 3 people. Good base for walking in the Lakes, plenty of pubs and restaurants within 5 minutes walk. Would recommend.
Everything we needed, and very convenient for the center of Ulverston, including the near by tesco to pick up extra milk and tea.
The bed is really comfortable.
