Once an important medieval trading centre, Norwich remains a popular shopping destination. The Chapelfield centre is the newest addition, whereas a historic shop sells the city’s most famous export: Colman’s Mustard. Castle Mall is underground, in a hill topped with a keep, part of the 12th-century castle founded by William the Conqueror.
Dating to the same era is the large cobbled square housing a 6-day market. It was said that Norwich had a church for every week, and while that is no longer true, over 30 medieval churches still exist. The cathedral was built using stone from Normandy and boasts England’s 2nd largest cloisters and 2nd tallest spire.
Colourful medieval façades line Elm Hill and the Guildhall is another fine example of the period. Half-timbered Dragon Hall was a trading hall, while St Andrew’s and Blackfriars Halls constitute England’s most intact friary. The 14th-century Cow Tower sits by the River Wensum upstream from Pulls Ferry, the train station and Norwich City FC.
Reportedly, Norwich once had a pub for every day, and today’s traditional inns and modern bars are certainly popular with the student population. Other entertainment options include the Theatre Royal and Playhouse.
Norwich accommodation on Booking.com includes historic hotels with pools, city centre guest houses and riverside apartments, all near to Norwich Airport.
Norwich is a compact and historic city. The streets around the magnificent Cathedral has very interesting well preserved medieval buildings. The Cathedral itself is well worth visiting. In addition to the Cathedral there is a well preserved Norman Castle. Many good places to eat out and drink. Also guided tours are available.

While there are some of the regular stores that you see in every city there were a lot more independent shops. The city market us of a good size with a variety of stalls. We ate at the Butterfly Cafe, King Street and Compleat Angler, Prince of Wales Road which were both reasonable value and dog friendly.

An overall pleasant city with ample history and not too badly affected by changes in retail habits over the years. The city appears to have recovered from the Covid period too.The area by the Cathedral ,river and school is quite attractive with a good ambience.

I used to work in Norwich and it was lovely to go back some years later. It is a lovely city. We are in Susan's which was busy and had a great atmosphere. The service was brilliant and the food was excellent. We didn't do any sight seeing but we all said we will plan to go back.

Norwich is a quirky place, lots of beautiful old buildings and lots of run down 50’s stuff. All slightly scruffy but rescued completely by the warmth of the people. Shopping and restaurants are marvellous.

An interesting and pleasant city overall.
An interesting and pleasant city overall. Plenty of historical and cultural interest, as well as a vibrant hospitality and entertainment scene. A generally friendly place, with many young people. Pedestrianised central areas for easy walking around, and not too much traffic in nearby streets. Plenty of nearby car parks. Riverside walks are recommended, and the Cathedral and Castle are worth visiting (though the Castle itself is closed for renovation - you can only visit the art gallery and museum parts at the moment).

See reviews by guests who stayed at hotels in Norwich
The hotel is in a good location, close to the city centre, shops, restaurants and bars. Friendly, welcoming staff, helpful and informative at check in. We stayed on a Bed & Breakfast basis, and all in all it was ok.
A pleasant stay, but found it to be lacking in some areas, hopefully with a few tweaks St Giles House can be turned into a little gem.
The hotel was ideally located for us. Just on the edge of the city centre (some 10 min walk) with plenty of parking. The hotel's policy is to allow the car to stay there until the end of the day of check-out giving more time to enjoy Norwich.
It is also served by direct bus routes from railway station and city centre.
The Maids Head Hotel is in a great location in Tombland: near the cathedral, the city centre and the railway station is a an easy walk away. It's a slightly old-fashioned place - to be expected as it dates from 1287 - but still a nice, friendly and central place to stay.
Lovely surroundings close to Norwich city centre. Facilities great with swimming pool and spa. Didn’t get to eat in the restaurant as fully booked but hopefully next time
